HOLY CROSS
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Combining academic excellence with spiritual values

The primary mission of Holy Cross Elementary School in Morgan City is living and imparting the Catholic faith. This mission is fulfilled through programs that focus on religious education, spiritual development, community outreach and strong academics. Our Catholic faith is woven throughout the day, giving direction in the daily lives of our students, faculty and staff.

At Holy Cross, we strive to create lessons, prayer and worship experiences that are meaningful in the lives of our students and faculty.

To accomplish this, our activities focus on:

  • Making decisions based on the teachings of Jesus Christ,

  • Thinking actively in academic areas,

  • Interacting respectfully with peers, and

  • Developing healthy lifestyles, emotionally and physically.

Holy Cross students experience excellent basic instruction along with activities ranging from cooperative learning, regular liturgies and service activities.

According to principal Mamie Bergeron, “Good things continue to happen at Holy Cross. New and interactive math and science curriculums complete with technological components have been implemented through the help of 8g grants and private donations.  Grants have also funded continuous upgrades in technology – affording an upgraded computer lab and secondary tutor lab, computer banks in each classroom, and technological teaching components such as LCD projectors and notebook computers.  This enables challenging lab and classroom computer activities for all students PK-3 to 6th grade.”

Other changes signifying growth include introductory Spanish, which has enhanced the cultural experiences of the students, an expanded physical education program, and a quality art program.  Programs such as ‘Everyday Math Counts,’ ‘Robolab,’ ‘Accelerated Reader,’ ‘Step Up to Writing,’ and ‘Daily Oral Language’ flourish throughout the school.  “Holy Cross boasts a complete and informative website (www.holycrosselementary.com) that is continuously updated and includes pictures of day to day happenings at Holy Cross. The school library is completely automated. “

Co-curricular programs including choir, scouting, intramural sports, service learning, physical fitness, field trips, band and clubs are aimed at encouraging social growth, self-esteem, good sportsmanship and leadership qualities. Holy Cross is able to meet the spectrum of children’s special needs through Rainbows, Title 1, multi-sensory techniques, enrichment, reinforcement, and one-on-one and small group tutoring.

In all, spiritual and academic programs at Holy Cross are a source of our pride and success.”  Mrs. Bergeron expresses her appreciation for the generous support of families and friends. “It is because of them that we are able to continuously enhance the education of our students.”

Test scores at Holy Cross remain high, testimony to the quality of education provided the students at Holy Cross Elementary.  Faculty and staff are committed to modeling Jesus as they administer to students with love, respect, and care as they carry out the school’s mission of living and imparting the Catholic faith.

Today Holy Cross Elementary School continues the tradition of the Marianite Sisters who founded the school more than a century ago, bringing the children of Morgan City and the surrounding area sound academics in a safe, secure, Catholic-based environment.
